VOGUE×COMME des GARCONS×Takashi Murakami

A Project to Celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Vogue Nippon! The Birth of a New Limited Time Only Shop: VOGUE NIPPON and Comme des Garçons Present MAGAZINE ALIVE!

VOGUE×COMME des GARCONS×Takashi Murakami

The world’s most influential fashion magazine, Vogue, is now celebrating the tenth anniversary of its Japanese edition: Vogue Nippon

To commemorate this occasion, they have collaborated with Comme des Garcons on a special limited time shop which is set to open on May 28, 2009 on Aoyama’s Kottodori. The shop will be entitled VOGUE NIPPON and Comme des Garçons MAGAZINE ALIVE.

The first floor of this new store is a dreamlike boutique which aims to bring 3-dimensional shape to the contents of Vogue Nippon. Customers will have the chance to buy items featured in the magazine’s pages and the space will change from month to month with each new issue.

The second floor will be transformed into a gallery space and feature works by high profile artists, also on a monthly basis. We are happy to announce that the first of these exhibits is based on the theme “Manga x Mode,” a collaboration with Takashi Murakami for the magazine’s July issue (on sale May 28). The exhibit was also curated by Murakami and is entitled “Takashi Murakami Magical Princess.”

In keeping with the manga x mode theme, the exhibit consists mainly of a photo display in which 8 members from the idol group AKB48 posed wearing original “magical princess” costumes.

For the reception, Murakami appeared head to toe in clothing from the Comme des Garçons line and was joined by AKB48 producer Yasushi Akimoto!

Another corner of the room is devoted to dead stock magical princess items, also available for purchase. Just one touch of these special goods is sure to bring a flood of childhood memories!
