Recently on a cold and rainy day, contemporary ceramic artist Teppei Onoand
Toukyoowner Ichiro Hirose paid a visit to our studio in Saitama.
Waiting for them inside was a large antique desk.

In truth, Mr. Ono is currently at work on preparations for an exhibition at Kaikai Kiki Gallery and was in the studio to discuss the details.

Mr. Ono is a ceramic artist based in Kochi prefecture who has also produced works in Bizen, Okinawa, and Tokoname. He is well known for having walked across the south east Asia, in the process visiting Thailand, Laos, India, Nepal, Indonesia, and Malaysia. After returning home, he made several more trips between Japan and Asia before finally settling in his currently location in the mountains of Kochi. These days, he works mostly in the Makigama (wood burned) style.

Utsuwabito Teppei Ono
Takashi Murakami’s familiarity with Ono goes back many years and includes several purchases of the artist’s works.

Together Ono and Hirose check the proper height at which each item should be displayed, all the while envisioning the atmosphere of the gallery.

They fell into a deep discussion sitting in front of this large wooden panel. On the right is Ichiro Hirose from Toukyo.
Mr. Ono’s exhibition is currently scheduled for this December and plans are well underway. Watch this space for further details.
