Takashi Murakami’s Poster Exhibit: “My First Art” Series

Takashi Murakami’s Poster Exhibit: “My First Art” Series

Kaikai Kiki will be holding a show that exhibits more than 80 posters, created by Takashi Murakami since, the “Hiropon Factory” years, over the span of 10 years.

Another History of Takashi Murakami

“Another History” is not an exaggeration. “My First Art” series, presents affordable, high quality artworks with the artist’s signature. Just like the title: this is to be the first piece of artwork you will own in your life. This project was started with the purpose of Takashi Murakami wanting to give others the chance to have the sensation of getting their hands on an edition of a piece of art with the scent of an original. There are 82 pieces in total. For the first time ever, all of the posters created until now will be displayed in one show. At this exhibit, all of the series –from the very first run, precious poster, all the way to the brand new Daruma series- coincides with the paintings and sculptures, will be lined up for your enjoyment. From a different point of view than the solo exhibition, it can be said that this is an opportunity to unravel, like a scroll, Murakami’s style, themes, and direction from past until present.

Conceived as a way to allow visitors to experience editioned, original works of art, this exhibition also showcases the increase in printing quality with each new series, and the surprisingly cutting-edge technology of printing giant, Japan. It would not be an exaggeration to say that these posters are of the highest quality printing in the world. All of the people who have seen the prints in person say that the degree of perfection in the posters makes it difficult to just call them prints –to the extent that you grow speechless just by looking at them. Another history of Takashi Murakami, who continues to cause a stir as a top international artist, will begin at his own “Kaikai Kiki Gallery.”

The Art Known as “Posters”

When you come to the exhibit, please come without the preconception that they are just posters. Saying that you will understand when you see them is a stale cliché, however all of the “My First Art” Series are signed and editioned. To introduce you to how wonderful this is… for example, the posters of works like “AND THEN Golden DOB,” with DOB, the representative character of Murakami’s works painted in, have perfectly expressed finishing touches, a material feel like they were printed on the surface of a mirror, thanks to a special technology called foil printing. Furthermore, the poster versions of the controversial and acclaimed Daruma series, which were displayed at the solo exhibition in spring of 2007 at Gagosian Gallery in New York, are at an unseen level of perfection that goes beyond the limits of printing technology. We would like to see your satisfaction at the crystallization of the “skill,” “willpower,” and “tenacity” of Kaikai Kiki and the printing technicians.
The exhibit will only be open for 10 days, however, there is no mistaking that this will be a time when you will be able to strongly feel the high quality of the 80+ posters. We would love to have you come to the gallery and thoroughly enjoy these posters as pieces of art.

*Furthermore, the gallery will only display the posters and not conduct any sales.
(Sales are scheduled to be conducted at a later date on the official website. We will post information on the website once the details are finalized.)
